What does the man look like?

Matthew Mcconaughey is not young anymore. He’s 42 years old and yet he puts most 20 year old guys to shame. As one of male strippers in Magic Mike, Mcconaughey got in awesome shape. Of course that’s not to say he was in bad shape before the movie.

In fact Matthew Mcconaughey is one of the few actors in Hollywood that actually stays in great shape all year long as evident by his famous paparazzi beach pics.

So what workout should you follow to get a body like Mcconaughey?

Well believe it or not, a body like this is achievable by simply using bodyweight exercises. Because you know there’s a reason he’s always doing push ups on the beach… without a shirt.

And if done in a correctly, bodyweight exercises can be as intense if not more so than weight training.

Here’s a quick and (not so) easy bodyweight circuit to help burn fat:

Do the following exercises in a row with no rest in between then rest for 60 seconds and repeat the circuit 3-4 more times. You can do this 3-4 times per week.

  • Prisoner squat (hands behind head) – 20 reps
  • Spider man push-up – 7 per side
  • Reverse lunge – 12 reps per leg
  • Walkouts – 10 reps
  • Decline push up – 20 reps

If you’re skinny and need to gain muscle…

If you’re a super skinny guy who need to pack on muscle, then I would probably avoid bodyweight exercises at first and just stick with weight training. It’s not that it’s impossible to gain muscle with bodyweight exercises, but it’s simply not optimal. If you’re trying to gain muscle, check out Joe Manganiello’s workout, one of Mcconaughey’s co-stars who is arguably the most muscular stripper in Magic Mike.
