4 Reasons Why Becoming A Vegetarian Is A Fucking Stupid Idea

October 5, 2014 | 1674 Comments

Note: This post is not meant to target those who are vegetarians for religious reasons or those who are vegetarians because they have some chronic disease that doesn’t allow them to eat meat. Instead, I’m targeting every single idiot out there who is a vegetarian for reasons like animal cruelty and health benefits.

Edit 9/10/14: Alright time to clear some air here. I started FitMole back in June 2011 and wrote this article in Aug 2011. Back when I started the blog I was trying to discover the best way to generate more traffic. So I thought to myself, “what’s the best way to get people talking?” So I came up with this article and the slightly edgy, and some might even call immature headline. And yes, I know the article can be seen as a bit offensive and ignorant. I still stand by my claims 100% that going vegetarian isn’t healthier than eating meat, but I do take full responsibility for some of the slightly ignorant comments I’ve made about animal cruelty. Other than that, can the person who keeps sending me death threat emails stop now 🙂

First off I just wanted to say I’m sorry. I normally don’t swear in the post title, but I just have to emphasize how stupid it is to become a vegetarian. It’s stupid, ridiculous, unnecessary, stupid, and did I mention it’s FUCKING stupid.

I have a couple of friends and family members that are vegetarians, and don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate them. I just can’t understand why they decided to follow this lifestyle.

When I ask them why they decided to become a vegetarian, they give me reasons like “Oh, it makes me feel good,” “Because meat is bad for your health,” or “I don’t want to harm animals.” Whenever I hear these reasons, I just put on my best “nod and pretend to agree with you” face.

So why is becoming a vegetarian stupid? Lets take a look:

1) You aren’t saving the lives of animals

I get it. You don’t like it when the heads of baby cows and pigs are chopped off, but do you really think eating that tofu burger is saving lives.

Fruits, vegetables, and grains are a staple among vegetarian diets, but did you know that millions of animals die just so you can enjoy that piece of bread? Eating foods like grains means destroying ecosystems and all of its inhabitants. It means killing all the little animals, birds, bugs, and microorganisms that live among the fields.

Do you know how many little animals and microorganisms die when farmers use machines to plow through wheat fields? The answer is a lot more than 1 cow.

As cheesy as it sounds, everything in life requires sacrifice. Animals are killed to get meat and ecosystems are destroyed to get grains. So the next time I’m eating a steak, don’t you dare judge me for killing a cow.

2) There is absolutely zero scientific proof showing that going vegetarian is healthy

When I want to believe something, I need proof. I need definite scientific proof.

And no, proof doesn’t mean reading a quote in Shape or MensHealth magazine. In order to convince me about anything I need to see a scientific study that shows causation not correlation.

For example, eating less food will make you loss weight.  This is a stone cold fact that will remain true no matter what.

However, there is absolutely ZERO proof showing that going vegetarian will decrease your risk of heart disease, cancer, or whatever nasty stuff you can think of.

The only thing we have are thousands of studies showing a correlation between an increased risk of disease and an increase in meat consumption. We have studies that conclude that eating meat “may increase” your risk of heart disease, but this doesn’t mean crap. It’s inconclusive and doesn’t prove anything. Saying that your risk of heart disease “may increase” from eating red meat is like saying you “may” be able to breath fire if you eat enough jalapenos.

And yes, before you get all crazy on me, I have read the China Study a.k.a the vegetarian’s wet dream. For those who don’t know, the China Study was a big study conducted by Dr. Campbell who basically concluded that meat is killer.

While the China Study garnered a ton of media attention a couple years ago, it is also an incredibly flawed study despite it’s massive scale. But talking about all the flaws in the China Study is beyond the scope of this article, so let me turn you over to a great article written by Denise Minger of Raw Food SOS. She did an amazing job in analyzing the China Study and basically debunked every single aspect of it.

People need to stop believing the mainstream media, and need to start looking at the actual research and facts.

 [The leaders of anti-vegetarians]

3) You don’t get to eat meat

I know this is a bit obvious, but being a vegetarian means that you don’t get to eat meat. EVER. That means no steak, bacon, horse, or BBQ ribs. The closest thing you’ll ever get to meat is some glued together crap made of wheat and soy.

And please, don’t tell me that your veggie burger tastes better than my double bacon cheeseburger, okay? Don’t tell me “Oh, but it tastes just like the real thing.” No it doesn’t, you rationalizing crazy person. It doesn’t matter how hard you try, a piece of tofu will never taste as good as a greasy piece of beef.

So if vegetarians are so concerned about their health, then why do they opt for highly processed foods likes breads and cereals that are not found in nature as opposed to real animal meat which has been around since…. forever. It makes no freakin sense.

4) Vegetarians are actually eating animals without knowing it!

This past summer, I took a Biology 101 class at a community college to fulfill some general education requirements for my degree. While the class was a complete waste of my time and I pretty much bull-shitted my way through it, I did learn something quite interesting.

I learned about the food web, which is basically description of “who eats who” in the environment.

It goes something like this:

fox eats rabbit => fox poops into the soil => the living soil then absorbs the poop(which includes the rabbit) => fruit and vegetable plants absorb that exact same soil to grow => humans eat those same fruits and vegetables

This process happens EVERYWHERE in nature.

So even if you’re a vegetarian, you’re technically eating dead animals, albeit in a more indirect liquid form. But last time I checked, vegetarians were all about saving lives no matter what.

Don’t be a vegetarian

Despite everything you’ve heard, vegetarians are NOT the health conscious animal saving saints that they’re made out to be.

Instead, vegetarians:

  • Support the destruction of ecosystems to obtain their food
  • Kill millions of small animals, bugs, and microorganisms
  • Aren’t saving their health since there’s absolutely zero scientific proof showing that meat is bad for you
  • Are actually eating meat without knowing it
  • Are simply misinformed about every aspect of the vegetarian lifestyle

So if you’re a vegetarian, then hopefully I’ve done my job to piss you off beyond belief, and if I converted you, then that’s cool too.

Once again, the only reason why you should be a vegetarian is for religious reasons or because you have a some chronic disease that doesn’t allow you to eat meat. But even if you’re a vegetarian for religious reasons, you might want to start questioning the logic behind your beliefs, just saying.

Alright guys, be sure to share this article with every single vegetarian you know, and to close out this article I have 3 parting words:

FUCK YOU PETA

    1. We know that not eating meat does not change anything, we just prefer not to do it.

      1) ?? Small organism obviously die in the process of plowing a field, and it is bad, but life iis not perfect. At least we do not keep animals in a jail and then kill them. If they do not use too much chemical pruducts plowing a field the impact can be kept to a minimum.

      2) Your argument about health is bogus. Despite that, there is no evidence that not eating meat is bad for you. So we prefer not to eat them.

      3) Black bean burger for example does not taste like meat, but is very nice. It is a different flavor, no one says that it tastes like meat. Personal I prefer the flavor of some black bean burgers to the flavor of a original burger (personal taste). For things like a good fish, it is a different story. But vegetarian food can be nice, and if you feel bad about eating meat it is a small compromise.

      4) We know about the food cycle. The problem is not with eating elements from “remains” of animal in the soil. The problem is keeping animals in a jail and then kill him.

I personal don’t priest about people being vegetarians, but personal I prefer not to eat animals. Also your arguments are kind of trivial and meaningless (you are not very bright are you?).

The 4) argument is a joke. Using the same argument you are eating persons (not a lot but some), so I guess that killing and eating people is ok.

      1. 1) bullshit hypocrite (very naive argument)
        2) the argument is not about not eating meat is unhealthy ( again such a bullcrap)
        3) i believe most vegans say that their burger tastes like meat to persuade “normal” people to become vegans. ( dont lie to yourself you know you once said your burger tastes like meat.
        4) “vegetarians are actually eating animals without knowing it!” i agree with this shit.
You also eat animals. You do know that some animals eat fucking plants and you eat their source of foods which means you also kill them by letting the animals starve.
And again with a fucking nonsense crap, “killing and eating people is ok”?? what the fuck? the writer discusses about the food cycle. did you go to school where they teach you the fucked up version of food cycle? first consumer is human, second consumer is human and so on? so you’re saying if humans do not eat themselves the food chain will be destroyed?
And also once again this bullshit. “The problem is keeping animals in a jail and then kill him.” so what you’re saying is we’re allowed to eat animals if we hunt them and kill them on spot? (i mean with the jail bullshit) Just use your fucking logic here, if vegetables are so nutritious then why the instinct of homo erectus or whatever to survive is by hunting animals? Is it because they didn’t know how to make a vegan burger yet?

Just say that you become a vegan is because you choose to be one, not because you are such a dude who loves peace and shit.

  1. I got a friend who even refuses to drink milk because “the mother cow produces it for the baby cow to consume, not us humans”.
If it’s a matter of taste, as in “I don’t like meat”, or the reasons you mentioned, or being against how animals are treated in factories, then I’m perfectly ok with someone being vegetarian or vegan. But when they preach about stupid shit like hurting animals or breaking the cycle of life, or ignorant statements like the milk one above, then they really deserve a punch in the face.

    1. Kagemitsu,
It’s true. Most vegetarians simply don’t understand that they’re killing animals and destroying the environment.

Of course, meat eaters aren’t saints either, but at least they realize that they’re killing animals and whatnot.

    2. just a quickie, milk cows (or any other creature with milk), will continue to produce as long as it is needed/it get’s tapped. So you can still feed the calf, but continue to milk the mother and her production will not go down. however, working at a farm for some time, I know that most farmers will instantly take away the calf after birth and feed it formula+water and no “real” milk from the mother – wich is the point I don’t like. But the farmers have their reasons I guess *shrug* (higher production/ saving money/ less chance of infection/can keep the single mother cow in a stall and not in a big enclosure with her calf/in general profit).

    1. Kim,
I currently do not know of any published data that shows the exact amount of animals killed in the fields, but there are definitely a lot.

  2. Hey! Thanks for the quick reply and for raising this issue. It got me thinking. I did a bit of research, and I found this article: http://www.animalvisuals.org/projects/data/1mc/

I was relieved to find that people have already done this research…whenever my interest is piqued, and I want to find the answer to something, I’m determined… and I wasn’t looking forward to spending my weekends picking up dead field mice 😛

Anyway, it looks like per one million calories (which is about what a person eats in a year), the number of animals killed is as follows:
    1. Chicken: 251.1 (237.6 slaughter; 13.5 harvest)
    2. Eggs: 92.3 (83.3 slaughter, 9 harvest)
    3. Beef: 29 (1.7 slaughter, 27.4 harvest)
    4. Pork: (7.1 slaughter, 11 harvest)
    5. Milk: (.04 slaughter, 4.74 harvest)
    6. Veggies: (0 slaughter, 2.55 harvest)
    7. Fruits: (0 slaughter, 1.73 harvest)
    8. Grains: (0 slaughter, 1.65 harvest)

I though it was interesting that the animals (even free range) are fed grains, and that field mice and other animals are killed to produce this feed. So, it’s sorta like a “double whammy.” Animals are killed to feed animals who are then slaughtered to feed us.

Something else I found noteworthy relates to quality of life. Compared to the field mice who get to live free (then die), the chickens, pigs, dairy cows, etc. are pretty much fucked their entire lives.

Anyway, interesting stuff. Thanks for posting.

    1. Hey Kim,
Thanks for digging up that info. It’s definitely interesting to see the food you eat every year when it’s put into numbers like that. And yeah, cows and chicken are basically born to die, while free animals roaming in the fields still have a slight chance of survival.

    2. Thank you. I am A vegetarian because I’m an animal lover and the reason I dont eat meat is because the animals who are in meat mills live a shitty life from the time they were born to the time they are slaughtered. Maybe if we were still in the ancient days where we hunted for our meat and only killed what we could eat then it would be different. But I will not eat an animal that suffered its whole life for us to eat him. You are just an arrogant jerk that yes, does bash vegetarians.and an animals shit going into the ground and becoming soul for veggies is not eating an animal you moron. This is your opinion. (to the guy who made this post). That being said kiss my vegetarian ass and petas website has more likes 😉

      1. Hey buddy

What is a “meat mill”? I know of Cattle ranches and hog farms and chicken farms, but not “meat mills”. Unless you’re referring to “Slaughterhouses” which is what they’re called. The animals get shipped there from massive farms in the middle of nowhere, they dont live in them their entire lives, lol.

Animals in the wild die a whole lot slower and painfully than the quick and easy Zapping and then sticking in the neck (completely humane) that they do in the slaughterhouses. Its a fucking privilege to die this way, and you’re just a fucking stupid yuppy who’s probably never SEEN the inside of a REAL slaughterhouse or seen a fucking farm in your whole life. It’s not a concentration camp, its a fucking farm with massive fields and shit. I’d love to see how the inside of your fucked-up brain works. It’d make a pretty good made-for-TV documentary.
        DAMN Vegetarians are stupid

        1. I believe Jessica was referring to factory farming, which is where most meat is produced. The wide open meadows and happy dancing chickens and cows are, for the most part, a figment of your imagination. Check out the doco Food Inc. for a good run down on where you meat is coming from.

          1. Uhhmm…. I live in a Rural area. Farms holding beef cows, and dairy cows are free roam. 50 acre fields which cattle roam until its time for the slaughter house. Please don’t refer to Food Inc. Their information is so skewed and misinformed its not even funny. Food Inc. Is mostly complete bullshit, coming from city people who really have no idea. Slaughter houses and farms are totally different. Here is a picture of cows on an average beef farm.

            http://yardtofork.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/b1.jpg

        2. I think you’re the one who’s stupid here. Do you honestly believe that the animals roam free on giant fields before they are killed? If that was the case your meat would be a hell of a lot more expensive it is today. To be able to produce cheap meat rapidly, it has to look like this:

          http://foodfreedomdotme.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/cow-factory.jpg
          http://cdn.gajitz.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/chicken-farming.jpg
          http://www.aisleofconfusion.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/hogfarm.jpghttp://www.culinaryhatchet.com/images/broiler-factory-farm1.jpg

It’s just common sense to understand that any other way of breeding animals for meat wouldn’t be profitable since you’re eating you own weight in meat every year. (At least in Sweden, America is probably worse)

And by the way, point three and four on that list are only there to make the list look longer. Point three is only the authors own opinion, and point four is just bullshit.

  3. Pal, I hate it when someone thinks they’re better than you, too. Being a vegetarian can mean making an effort to do what y o u think is right.

    All the best.

    1. What if you really just don’t like meat? Is that okay? Honestly, I don’t like most foods…I find meat disgusting. I really don’t like animals much either, so I’m not interested in inserting them into my body. I don’t eat much of anything actually.

  4. Okay, first off, you need to fucking relax. Though the smart crap you’re babbling about is accurate and a little overly opinionated, you’re not tempting anyone when you tell them they can’t have meat; obviously they went vegetarian to NOT eat meat. Face it, animals die whether people have a certain diet choice or not, everything a human does causes a chain reaction. I’ve loved meat since the day i was born, and i’m a vegetarian now, of only one week. I haven’t heard anyone say meat is bad for you. I’m with you, meat fucking rocks, it’s delicious and has excellent protein. I chose to become vegetarian to keep me slim. I don’t really give a crap about health benefits, but eating meat doesn’t benefit you much either… maybe it’s a “fucking stupid idea” to eat meat! Wow! Then, i can blog about why my opinion is right and why everyone should listen to me! You’re an asshole, and there’s no such thing as a wrong opinion, so don’t even dare to post why the opinions of millions who choose vegetarian are wrong. And to close out this article, i have 5 parting words.
    Time for my tofu, bitch.

    1. Michaela,
This post was meant to be somewhat humorous. If you didn’t catch that, I’m sorry.

If you chose to be a vegetarian because it helps you stay lean, then that’s great. But lets face it, the majority of people don’t become vegetarians because they want to stay lean. They become vegetarians because they think it will improve their health and they think it will save the environment, which isn’t really true.

And you’re right, there’s nothing wrong with having your own opinion, I’m just posting mine here for everyone to see 😉

      1. …You’re not a bad guy 🙂 guess i came on strong, haha… probably from my lack of meat intake. Sorry about the freak out, and i stayed vegetarian for a month, but then was offered beef jerky and from that point i instantly gave up (beef jerky is my weakness, hahaha).

  5. I have been doing some reading on this very subject. I am not sure yet where I stand on all the info listed. I do know after researching grain being fed to cows and what it does to them (making them sick and therefore needing drugs and since they need drugs are kept in close quarters so, all meat has ecoli and therefore needs to be radiated) and how they are raised on feed lots, I did decided to buy pasture fed cow locally which I believe is better for you nutrionally and more humane. I am now looking into the chickens. It really is a lot of info when you start looking into it, but every human should definitely know and understand all aspects of where the their food comes from to make an informed decision on what diet they will partake.

  6. First, props to the site it is finally the only fitness website in the world that cites literature and studies, congrats as I honestly have not seen this before on other websites.

I am by no means a vegetarian and I have agreed with almost every article you have written except for this one. To say there are no health benefits to being vegetarian (especially a vegetarian that eats fish) is plain wrong. First, there is evolutionary evidence that humans were not evolved to ingest the levels of meat that we do now. For example, our teeth do not even assume we are omnivores, we have two crappy incisors. Now look at a canine’s teeth. Second, the digestive enzymes in our body and our entire digestive tract (very long) is extremely similar to other herbivores. Carnivores have a much smaller digestive tract with enzymes that allow the rapid digestion and absorption of the protein. It is OK to eat meat occasionally, but to eat it at the quantity we currently do is indeed “over-riding” our digestive system and causing massive increases in LDL that cause increased rates of cardiovascular disease. This brings me to the second points: current epidemiological and historical studies have consistently shown trends that indicate populations that consume red meat are at greater risk for heart disease. This has been reaffirmed via metanalysis studies several times. This is a very well-accepted fact in the medical community. Now it has not been “proven” because one cannot conduct a randomized clinical trial on the subject, but the other studies that can be conducted have been conducted and have all shown the harm in consuming red meat consistently.

Saying red meat is not harmful is flat out wrong. With that said, you can make a solid claim that a vegetarian diet is not superior to a normal diet that does not consume red meat all that often. Just wanted to go on a rant about this in case someone took the wrong idea out of this article and started downing red meat 6x a day 🙂

    1. Sebster,
I think that as long you don’t eat too much one kind of food then it can’t be bad for you. This article wasn’t meant to instruct people to eat nothing but meat, but was just to show that vegetarian diets aren’t really superior. I’m not going to say “all meat” diets are superior because that’s just painting a target on my back, but my point is that there is no “best” diet. People who diet should just be able to eat their favorite foods in smaller amounts. There’s no reason to be a vegetarian and cut out all forms of meat.

  7. This didnt make me mad being vegetarian, nor did it make me want to convert to eating meat,
It just made me realize, people like to state alot of opinions as facts and keep their minds intolerant, disrespect is intolerance, and disrespect makes alot of people void the idea of you even wanting to know a close minded persons opinion.

  8. I’m a vegetarian because i believe animals are treated unethically, also because if everyone didn’t consume meat to the extent they did then we would have enough food to feed everyone, not just the western society, so i’m not saying you shoud stop eating meat, just don’t be an idiot about it, and don’t slag something off for no reason you massvie bellend 😀 xxx

  9. While I would agree that becoming a vegetarian because you think it’s healthier than the alternative is vain stupidity, you didn’t grapple with the moral argument for vegetarianism/veganism at all, nor do I think you even comprehend it judging by what you wrote. Moreover, I’m not even sure why you are so hostile to it, and because of your total unwillingness/inability to grapple with the moral status of meat consumption it seems rooted in a kind of uneasiness or shame in your own consumption of meat that the existence of vegetarians and vegans forces you to deal with.

  10. YOU ARE A BITCH, BE VEGETARIAN SAFE ANIMALS LIVE, THOSE WHO DO NOT EAT MEAT ARE NOT THEIR DEATHS COMPLICES ARE YOU bastards who care more about TASTE OF THE POOR COW MEAT, POULTRY, FISH OR OTHER ANIMAL THAT HAD A RIGHT TO LIVE !!!!!!

  11. Well…this is the lamest article till date I’ve ever seen on internet! Please don’t make make such a fool of yourself by posting these kind of baseless(being scientific…huh?) articles. Because unlike you, many of others don’t require scientific proof to believe how sick and crazy fool you are.

  12. 1. Meat eaters eat bread anyway, so we’re still killing less animals than you.
    2. If you are a vegetarian who eats a balanced diet, you eat less fat.
    3. Eating produce from soil that an animal has died most likely from natural causes or another animal is beter than eating an animal directly.
    4. I respect your opinion, but this article is very offensive.

    Have a nice day . 😀
