Important note: Please advise your doctor before following any plan. Don’t follow the advice below if you are under 18.
People always ask: “How much weight can you lose in a week?” Well… to answer your question I have good news, awesome news, and bad news.
First onto the good news: YOU CAN LOSE A TON OF WEIGHT IN ONE WEEK
That’s right, you don’t have to be bound to the conventional wisdom of only losing 1 or 2 pounds a week. Extreme weight loss diets can definitely work, but only for a short period of time.
In fact, you can lose up to 15 pounds in one week if you do it correctly.
Now onto the awesome news: ALL THAT WEIGHT YOU LOSE WILL BE WATER AND FAT, NOT MUSCLE
Yup, you read that correctly, if you follow the methods at the end of this post, all the weight you lose during the week will be pure body fat. The conventional statement that losing more than 2 pounds per week leads to muscle, organ, and hair loss is absolute unicorn shit.
How do I know this? Because some awesome scientists from the American College Of Nutrition back in 1999, conducted a study, which tested 2 groups of people for 12 weeks.
One group only did traditional cardio, while the other group only did weight training. Both groups ate 800 calories a day. At the end of the study, both groups lost large amounts of weight, but the one that only did cardio lost large amounts of lean muscle mass, and the one that only did weight training didn’t lose any muscle mass at all.
So there you go, some hard hitting scientific facts that prove that you will not lose muscle during extreme dieting as long as you lift weights.
Note: And if you don’t have a gym membership or if you don’t have access to any weights, then doing a well-designed bodyweight program like Bodyweight Burn is your next best option.
And lastly, the bad news: YOU HAVE TO EAT VERY VERY LOW CALORIES
So yeah…. you have to eat a ridiculously low amount of calories to lose a lot of weight in a week. I’m talking along the lines of 800 calories a day.
The amount that would make any nutritionist hang themselves.
And now, onto the plan, but first, a picture of steaks:

The 2-step plan to lose the maximum amount of weight in a week
Please note that the following plan can be used by both men and woman.
And don’t do this plan if you’re under 18, you’re way too young to be eating such low calories.
I guarantee that if you follow the plan below, you will lose 10-15 pounds(water and fat) in one week:
1) For one week only, eat 800 calories per day.
2) Workout 2-3 times per week with weights. Make sure the weights are heavy and be sure to hit all body parts.
That’s all.
Some notes/tips about the above 2 steps:
- 800 calories is very little food, for any man, woman, or baby walrus. Because of this, I suggest that you only eat 1 meal per day a la Brad Pilon’s Eat Stop Eat. If you eat one 800 calorie meal per day, then you’ll at least feel somewhat satisfied, but if you split that up into 3 or even worse, 6 meals per day, then you’re not going to fare so well on this one week venture. Yes, this means that you will be fasting 24 hours every day for a whole week. Just remember, you will be burning fat, not muscle.
- Whenever possible, eat higher protein and eat foods with high water content such as fruits and soups. Also, drink lots of coffee and green tea, since they both tend to blunt hunger quite well.
- Stick with heavy compound exercises when in the gym. That means no curling and crunching, and if you even step foot on a treadmill, my dumbass radar will go off and I may have to kill you.
- If you can’t lift weights, then your next best option is to do some sort of bodyweight training. You know…exercises like squats, push-ups, lunges, pull-ups, sit-ups, etc..
- This is a mental game more than anything else. When you’re eating very few calories to lose weight faster, your mind starts playing tricks on you. Your stomach is gonna be grumbling more often. And there are gonna be times where you want nothing more than to self-sabotage yourself. Which is why the next point is so important.
- Above all, keep yourself distracted and out of the kitchen. If you’re constantly prancing around the kitchen and thinking about food, you’re going to fail. So keep yourself busy. Read a book, play some video games, take a nap, work on your tan, or shave your pubes. I don’t care. Just do something that doesn’t involve food.
- [EDIT 10/6/2014] I should also add that your protein intake needs to be HIGH. Like really high. In fact, the majority of your calories should probably come from protein, fruits, and veggies if you want this diet to be effective. The protein will help keep you full but more importantly also help maintain muscle.
Remember, this is only for one week
I just wanted remind you all, that this sort of extreme weight loss plan is only a temporary plan.
The results don’t have to be temporary, but the plan is. Please do not try and do this weight loss plan for more than a week.
Doing so is really going to mess with your head and you’ll most likely binge back to your original weight.
After one week, transition to a more moderate weight loss plan for the long haul.
I hope you guys now know how much weight you could lose in a week if went balls to the walls.
Want even better results? Take it to the next level with Fat Loss Boost
Many people have been asking me, “Can I do this for more than 7 days?”
Uh…
Yes and no.
Technically, you could eat 800 cals per day for a sustained period of time.
But sooner or later it’s gonna backfire on you.
If you want a more sustainable rapid fat loss plan…
Then I highly recommend checking out Fat Loss Boost.
This is a more long-term approach than the strategy I outlined in this blog post.
It’s a strategic rapid fat loss diet that works in 14 day cycles.
So you go hard on the diet for 14 days, lose a crap ton of weight, take a break, and repeat.
And the results from Fat Loss Boost are even better:
““I have been able to lose 10 pounds using this program. Starting weight 186. Weight this morning was 176.”
“I lost 12 lbs for my first attempt. Started at 201.7 and ended at 189.9. I am amazed!!! Thanks to everywhere for all the support and great hacks.”
“Ok people I’m done 😀. I hit 171.8 today, my goal was to break 172 on this round which was what I weighed almost ten years ago (lowest as an adult). That’s 30.2 lbs in just under 3 months.“
Pretty crazy, right?
Definitely give it a look if you want a realistic, yet challenging plan that burns fat faster than anything. you ever tried before.

Im 15 yrs old and i weigh 134 lbs i started this diet fri the 23 of Feb except i havent been eating breakfast or lunch most of the time except for dinner but i feel fine i want to know if i can countiune doing this before something bad happenes?
No no no. DO NOT do this diet.
This diet is not meant for people under the age of 18. Since you are only 15 I would suggest to keep a healthy diet and healthy work out system and not follow this particular diet as it states it’s not meant for teens (under 18).
Want to be short and fat? That is what this diet will cause at 15.
This diet is bad for you because your body is still growing. If you do not get the appropriate NUTRIENTS and protein, your body will not grow correctly. This is causing PERMANENT harm to your body.
The good news is, at 15, as long as you stop sugar and soda (and don’t drink alcohol of course) and go light on carbs (no junk food) your body will shed weight very quickly without doing this diet.
If you do this starvation mode, the effect will be exactly the opposite. Your body is designed to survive. If it senses starvation, it will slow your metabolism (which at this age is the fastest it will ever be). Then, everything you eat will be stored. This means stunted growth and getting fat EASIER for many months to follow. Yep, your body will fight against you.
Also, you may see as you grow, there is often a pattern. Your body stocks up, do you seem slightly larger In the middle, then you will have a growth spurtwhich will make you skinny again. That’s a normal process.
Good luck!

Hey Keith.
So I’m 29 yrs old Male and been having heart issues [Myrocarditis]. I’ve been trying to find different methods of losing weight. I recently dropped from 215 to 209 lbs. I’m starting my 60 day challenge here at the gym [basic exercise boot camp] and decided to set up my meals different throughout the day. I’m counting Calories since that’s what most recommend.
I’m currently doing a 900 calorie diet which consist of the following:
Breakfast: Protein Shake = 511 Cals.
Snack: Cottage Cheese 2% = 80 Cals
Lunch: Shiritaki Noodles soups consist of Spinach, Chives, Tofu and Garlic in chicken broth. = 265 Cals
Snack: Activa Yogurt = 60 Cals.
Dinner: Barley Tea [Helps suppress Hunger]
Grand Total of 916 Cals.
I play about 30 mins – 1 hr of Just Dance 2018 [Lose from 250 – 500 Cals]
Minor exercising, push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, squats, planks, etc.
Once I start my 60 day challenge at the Gym [This Friday], I’m unsure of everything I will have to go through.
Would limiting myself my current eating plan be healthy for me, even if it’s 1 week.
Here is my nutrients for today’s meal:
Protein: 89g
Carbs: 79g
Fat: 29g
Appreciate you looking into this for me.
I’m unaware of your current heart condition. So I can’t safely recommend this approach for you.
Are you full after that shake? Seems like a huge luxury on this diet. I’d try to get those nutrients from other sources throughout the day personally
I’m going to drink 3 Adkins protein shakes a day and 8 16oz of water a day with 2 of the waters 2 tsp of raw. I 370lbs with cellulitis and I want to live. I’m 55 yrs old. I’ve done this before for 2 weeks for surgery. I plan on doing this for 6 months. After 2 weeks I will incorporate a free day of 4 items to have on those days. A baked sweet potato with tsp of honey or a half chicken breast and steamed stalk of broccoli or a half chicken breast and 6 Brussels sprouts or 1 small can of tuna in water with 1 boiled egg or mixed green or spinach and tomato salad with 1 boiled egg. Those are my choices and through my promise to myself I shall finish this and incorporate these types of meals in my daily choices. I am my own enemy and only I can save me now.
Hi! I am 16 years old, 5’4 and weighing about 145 lb. I have been dieting and working out every other day after school, but i also have dance and volleyball once a week. I am looking to shed some quick weight. When I work out after school it is a lot of muscle toning in the legs, glutes, and abs. I have no problem dieting healthily, do you think this diet will work for me?
Hi there , I’m 15 and weigh around 103 pounds I’m desperately trying to loose weight for my Holiday in 3 weeks and I’m just asking what is the possible worst that could happen if I take on this diet for the 3 weeks but without the weights and lifting , I’m willing to do whatever it takes and other side effects don’t bother me that much so I was just wondering how bad it could get and the worst outcome of doing this for 3 weeks
no no no please don’t do this.
You’re only 15 and not even overweight. I understand that being your age, you might think you’re overwieght and you don’t have the body you want….but this diet or ANY diet is not the answer.
Why is cardio a bad idea on this diet
please read other comments and article agian.
38 male. 5’11 226 pounds. Athletic build. Want to lose a few inches in thighs and midsection. Finishing a cleanse. Workout 4-5 Days a week. Is there a certain cadence to implement this approach? On off each month? Quarter? Would like to get back to 205 like I was as college athlete.
be patient. This is just meant to be done to “jump start” your weight loss. I wouldn’t recommend to do it more than once every 6 months.
What diet do you reccomend for after this week?
a more sustainable deficit around 10-12x your bodyweight in pounds.
When you say 10x body weight in pounds is that current body weight or ideal body weight?
current.
So! I am 16 5’1 and i weigh around 240 and I have tried every diet known to freaking man. I really need your help losing weight I am tired of my family calling me a cow. please help me.
It’s daily exercise and healthy eating. Don’t over eat and know how to control your eating! Believe in yourself. Never starve yourself, eating healthier and less. No soft drinks or fast food period. Love yourself
Eat at a caloric deficit every day and try to go to the gym as much as you can. The gym is not needed, but it will help. Even if you just walk on the treadmill for a mile, it is better than nothing, just go.
Count your calories. If you make sure to not eat over 1200 calories daily for a month you should see some noticeable weight loss. Keep it up for 3 months and you could be down 30 pounds.
I haven’t tried this diet, but I know low calories do work. Ten years ago, I received sad news and went into a state of shock where I didn’t eat anything at all for 3 days. My sister made me drink water a bit, but I barely slept. I couldn’t shut my eyes close! I don’t wish this on my worst enemy. On the 4th day, I dehydrated and got diarrhea. Again, it wasn’t intentional! It was trauma. I love to eat, so I wasn’t even trying to lose weight! I started eating soup and crackers for a few days and managed to get some sleep. In less than a week I lost 15lbs.
My point is that, firstly, he’s right you can lose a lot of weight in one week although I’ve read every where it’s like 2.5 lbs. (not in my experience). I found out the hard way that you can lose a lot of weight in one week and didn’t even realize what was happening with my body, but the body will let you know! Secondly, it’s a terrible way of losing weight and no one should stop eating, so it’s great that this diet allows 800 calories per day. To the young women reading this, if you’re under 18, don’t do it! You’re young and should be able to lose weight by looking at healthier options. Women must also watch their iron, so even when dieting opt for spinach and meats high in iron. No one is ever short of protein (and if so FEW people) but women tend to be low in IRON and when you’re iron drops your mind will foggy, you will be weak and FATIGUED. Women need to watch their iron.
Thirdly, your body will shut down if you don’t feed it. Again, I didn’t even realize it was possible and now that I’m in my 40s am looking of ways to lose weight without compromising my health.
