Extreme Weight Loss (2022): How Much Weight Can You Lose In A Week?

how much weight can you lose in a week without eating

Important note: Please advise your doctor before following any plan. Don’t follow the advice below if you are under 18.

People always ask: How much weight can you lose in a week?” Well… to answer your question I have good news, awesome news, and bad news.

First onto the good news: YOU CAN LOSE A TON OF WEIGHT IN ONE WEEK

That’s right, you don’t have to be bound to the conventional wisdom of only losing 1 or 2 pounds a week. Extreme weight loss diets can definitely work, but only for a short period of time.

In fact, you can lose up to 15 pounds in one week if you do it correctly.

Now onto the awesome news: ALL THAT WEIGHT YOU LOSE WILL BE WATER AND FAT, NOT MUSCLE

Yup, you read that correctly, if you follow the methods at the end of this post, all the weight you lose during the week will be pure body fat. The conventional statement that losing more than 2 pounds per week leads to muscle, organ, and hair loss is absolute unicorn shit.

How do I know this? Because some awesome scientists from the American College Of Nutrition back in 1999, conducted a study, which tested 2 groups of people for 12 weeks.

One group only did traditional cardio, while the other group only did weight training. Both groups ate 800 calories a day. At the end of the study, both groups lost large amounts of weight, but the one that only did cardio lost large amounts of lean muscle mass, and the one that only did weight training didn’t lose any muscle mass at all.

So there you go, some hard hitting scientific facts that prove that you will not lose muscle during extreme dieting as long as you lift weights.

Note: And if you don’t have a gym membership or if you don’t have access to any weights, then doing a well-designed bodyweight program like Bodyweight Burn is your next best option.

And lastly, the bad news: YOU HAVE TO EAT VERY VERY LOW CALORIES

So yeah…. you have to eat a ridiculously low amount of calories to lose a lot of weight in a week. I’m talking along the lines of 800 calories a day.

The amount that would make any nutritionist hang themselves.

And now, onto the plan, but first, a picture of steaks:

I didn’t want to put a boring picture of a scale, so here’s some delicious steaks. I’m guessing this isn’t the best article to put this picture in

The 2-step plan to lose the maximum amount of weight in a week

Please note that the following plan can be used by both men and woman.

And don’t do this plan if you’re under 18, you’re way too young to be eating such low calories.

I guarantee that if you follow the plan below, you will lose 10-15 pounds(water and fat) in one week:

1) For one week only, eat 800 calories per day.

2) Workout 2-3 times per week with weights. Make sure the weights are heavy and be sure to hit all body parts.

That’s all.

Some notes/tips about the above 2 steps:

  • 800 calories is very little food, for any man, woman, or baby walrus. Because of this, I suggest that you only eat 1 meal per day a la Brad Pilon’s Eat Stop Eat. If you eat one 800 calorie meal per day, then you’ll at least feel somewhat satisfied, but if you split that up into 3 or even worse, 6 meals per day, then you’re not going to fare so well on this one week venture. Yes, this means that you will be fasting 24 hours every day for a whole week. Just remember, you will be burning fat, not muscle.
  • Whenever possible, eat higher protein and eat foods with high water content such as fruits and soups. Also, drink lots of coffee and green tea, since they both tend to blunt hunger quite well.
  • Stick with heavy compound exercises when in the gym. That means no curling and crunching, and if you even step foot on a treadmill, my dumbass radar will go off and I may have to kill you.
  • If you can’t lift weights, then your next best option is to do some sort of bodyweight training. You know…exercises like squats, push-ups, lunges, pull-ups, sit-ups, etc..
  • This is a mental game more than anything else. When you’re eating very few calories to lose weight faster, your mind starts playing tricks on you. Your stomach is gonna be grumbling more often. And there are gonna be times where you want nothing more than to self-sabotage yourself. Which is why the next point is so important.
  • Above all, keep yourself distracted and out of the kitchen. If you’re constantly prancing around the kitchen and thinking about food, you’re going to fail. So keep yourself busy. Read a book, play some video games, take a nap, work on your tan, or shave your pubes. I don’t care. Just do something that doesn’t involve food.
  • [EDIT 10/6/2014] I should also add that your protein intake needs to be HIGH. Like really high. In fact, the majority of your calories should probably come from protein, fruits, and veggies if you want this diet to be effective. The protein will help keep you full but more importantly also help maintain muscle.

Remember, this is only for one week

I just wanted remind you all, that this sort of extreme weight loss plan is only a temporary plan.

The results don’t have to be temporary, but the plan is. Please do not try and do this weight loss plan for more than a week.

Doing so is really going to mess with your head and you’ll most likely binge back to your original weight.

After one week, transition to a more moderate weight loss plan for the long haul.

I hope you guys now know how much weight you could lose in a week if went balls to the walls.

Want even better results? Take it to the next level with Fat Loss Boost

Many people have been asking me, “Can I do this for more than 7 days?”

Uh…

Yes and no.

Technically, you could eat 800 cals per day for a sustained period of time.

But sooner or later it’s gonna backfire on you.

If you want a more sustainable rapid fat loss plan…

Then I highly recommend checking out Fat Loss Boost.

This is a more long-term approach than the strategy I outlined in this blog post.

It’s a strategic rapid fat loss diet that works in 14 day cycles.

So you go hard on the diet for 14 days, lose a crap ton of weight, take a break, and repeat.

And the results from Fat Loss Boost are even better:

“I have been able to lose 10 pounds using this program. Starting weight 186. Weight this morning was 176.”

“I lost 12 lbs for my first attempt. Started at 201.7 and ended at 189.9. I am amazed!!! Thanks to everywhere for all the support and great hacks.”

“Ok people I’m done 😀. I hit 171.8 today, my goal was to break 172 on this round which was what I weighed almost ten years ago (lowest as an adult). That’s 30.2 lbs in just under 3 months.

Pretty crazy, right?

Definitely give it a look if you want a realistic, yet challenging plan that burns fat faster than anything. you ever tried before.

  1. Hi Keith,

Do you have any suggestions of the type of weights training and number of reps I should be doing to achieve this effectively?

  2. I’m 48, about 220 lbs and just learned I need to fly to the work home office in 12 days.

Can I do this for 12 days?

I like eggs. Can I get a good amount of my calories from eggs?

I have access to a gym, so I will do the weights.

Can I also swim and bike ride casually?

I’m starting right this instant, putting down a half finished beer.

    Thanks!

  3. Needing a little advice please. I’ve been doing the Keto diet for about 3 weeks and limiting my calories to less than 700 calories plus running. I can’t go to the gym I have young children and it won’t work. I DO live on a huge hill with almost a straight up incline which is probably a bit over a quarter mile. I’ve been running down and up it 3 times each time and about 1-2 times a week. So far I’ve lost 13 lbs MOST WATER WEIGHT.
Any possibility there is some kind of weight training I can incorporate made out of things in my home?
I have 2.5 weeks left before a vacation full of bikinis and 115f weather. I NEED to loose another 10-15 pounds as that has always been my normal weight my whole life. I’m 37 female and packed on the pounds with depression and a winter of eating nothing but bread and pasta.
What’s my best bet going forward. Should I do the 3 day vinegar honey cayenne fast then switch to cardio five times a week and some kind of weight training in home (best I can come up with is large cans as weights. PLEASE PLEASE HELP. I NEED DIRECTION. Keto has been helping but not what my body naturally does when my metabolism kicks in.

SORRY FOR LONG MESSAGE!!!! I need best possible results I can get. P.s. I’m five foot 9 have ALWAYS BEEN 120 lbs without trying now suddenly the pounds I’ve put on have turned into my butt hanging low, I know age is a factor but PLEASE HELP. I NEED TONE AND DEFINITION PLUS LOOSING A FEW PANT SIZES.
IM CURRENTLY 5’9 and exactly 139. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GIVE ME THE BEST ADVICE. I AM TOTALLY DEDICATED AND IF YALL HELP ME ID BE HAVY TO SEND MANY MANY FRIENDS YOUR WAY.
    THX

    1. You’re looking for a quick fix and shortcut which really doesn’t exist in fitness.

You already did 700 cals for 3 weeks and I recommend you to stop.

A 3 day vinegar honey cayenne fast is absolute bullshit, do not do it.

For weights, if you have anything that can replicate dumbbells like a gallon jug of water or a sandbag would help. But I recommend getting access to a gym or investing in some weights.

I would stop stressing over your weight. 2.5 weeks is not enough time to make a dramatic change. Even if u do lose a lot of weight, it will mostly be water and you’ll gain it right back on your vacation.

The best advice is to start strength training 3x per week and bump your calories back up to something realistic like 1400 per day.

      Are your friends hot?

  4. I’m 180lbs 5’4″. I really need to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks. Is this possible for my weight and height?

  5. Hi, I I’ve heard that this method is very effective but the problem is I also heard that amount of weight loss that fast isn’t permanent and doesn’t stick. Looking to lose the weigh fast and permanently. How do you go about doing that? And also what are some foods that are high in protein?

    1. fast and permanent? Chop off your limbs, get rid of a kidney.

If there was truly a fast and permanent way to lose weight, EVERYONE (AND I MEAN EVERYONE) would do it. There’s a reason why most people are out of shape.

      Oh and chicken is good.

  6. I’m 212 5’7” .. could I be able to loose 15 pounds in a weeks doing 800 calorie diet, 16:8 fasting and heavy lifting?

  7. Hi, I’m 18, 5’6 and just under 140 pounds. I’m going on vacation in 22 days. What’s my best bet to shape up before then? I have access to a gym, and I’ve started eating 800 calories a day today and will continue to do so for 1 week. Is it possible to lose 10-15 pounds (125 is ideal but 130 is also fine) before then? Thanks,
    Melissa

    1. You can def get results, but you can’t expect miracles in less than a month. That’s the reality. 800 per day for a week is good then you an transition to 1400-1500 per day.

  8. In need of a jump start. 128lbs, 5’0. Is Crossfit ok in combination with this diet? I’m keeping it Whole30 to get max water loss.

    1. I wouldn’t recommend something like crossfit with this. Well depends on the crossfit workout. But still, at your weight….you likely won’t lose 10 pounds. If you want a long term approach to weight loss, i recommend about 1300 cals per day.

  9. I am 5’3 and my weight is 130lbs with the 800 cal intake and 5 days of weight lifting how much weight can I lose ?

      1. Hi,

I tried this for a week. And I was able to lose about 5 pounds. But now I’m stuck there.
I haven’t been able to lose any further weight even though I continued the weight for the 2nd week now.
All I’ve been eating is Chicken + broccoli + fruits ( for lunch ) and some protein again ( for dinner )
        Any further tips?

  10. I’m 5’5 and weigh 168, I’ve recently gained about 7 pounds in the past 1/2 months, and gained 32 pounds since last July in total I want to get slimmer to how I used to be, I’ll admit I eat unhealthy food and binge quite a bit. Any suggestions to maximise weight loss and muscle gain, I do have access to a gym but my time is very limited because I have a part time job and I’m still in education full time so studying take up most of my free time if not work does, and I can’t drive to get to the gym? Could you suggest workouts that help muscle similar to lifting weights at the gym? My goal is to be 135 pounds eventually. Please reply x

    1. You want my slightly condescending one sentence answer – stop eating so much unhealthy food and binging.

Here’s my slightly longer not-as-dick answer:

      – Find out what triggers you to binge. Eliminate if possible. E.g. if you have junk food in house, throw that shit out.
      – Follow the 3 day split here – https://www.fitmole.org/upper-lower-split/
      – Show me your schedule and I’m guaranteed you can free up 3 hours per week to workout.
      – “maximizing” weight loss is about staying consistent.

      1. Haha thank you, you’ve made my day! I’ve looked at the link you sent, seems good!
        9-3 tues,weds,fri 9-2 thurs 9-4:30 mon classes
        Work 6-9 pm
Plus studying 1/2 hours a day outside classes
Definitely could fit in at weekend it’s just during the week I think I’d struggle.

    1. just do it. I’m not a wizard. I can’t predict the exact amount. If you do this, there’s only upside. YOu’ll lose a substantial amount of weight the first week which you can use as a launching pad into something more sustainable and long term.

But whatever you do, DONT look at this as a quick fix. YOU WILL FUCK UP IF YOU DO. I PROMISE.
