Extreme Weight Loss (2022): How Much Weight Can You Lose In A Week?

how much weight can you lose in a week without eating

Important note: Please advise your doctor before following any plan. Don’t follow the advice below if you are under 18.

People always ask: How much weight can you lose in a week?” Well… to answer your question I have good news, awesome news, and bad news.

First onto the good news: YOU CAN LOSE A TON OF WEIGHT IN ONE WEEK

That’s right, you don’t have to be bound to the conventional wisdom of only losing 1 or 2 pounds a week. Extreme weight loss diets can definitely work, but only for a short period of time.

In fact, you can lose up to 15 pounds in one week if you do it correctly.

Now onto the awesome news: ALL THAT WEIGHT YOU LOSE WILL BE WATER AND FAT, NOT MUSCLE

Yup, you read that correctly, if you follow the methods at the end of this post, all the weight you lose during the week will be pure body fat. The conventional statement that losing more than 2 pounds per week leads to muscle, organ, and hair loss is absolute unicorn shit.

How do I know this? Because some awesome scientists from the American College Of Nutrition back in 1999, conducted a study, which tested 2 groups of people for 12 weeks.

One group only did traditional cardio, while the other group only did weight training. Both groups ate 800 calories a day. At the end of the study, both groups lost large amounts of weight, but the one that only did cardio lost large amounts of lean muscle mass, and the one that only did weight training didn’t lose any muscle mass at all.

So there you go, some hard hitting scientific facts that prove that you will not lose muscle during extreme dieting as long as you lift weights.

Note: And if you don’t have a gym membership or if you don’t have access to any weights, then doing a well-designed bodyweight program like Bodyweight Burn is your next best option.

And lastly, the bad news: YOU HAVE TO EAT VERY VERY LOW CALORIES

So yeah…. you have to eat a ridiculously low amount of calories to lose a lot of weight in a week. I’m talking along the lines of 800 calories a day.

The amount that would make any nutritionist hang themselves.

And now, onto the plan, but first, a picture of steaks:

I didn’t want to put a boring picture of a scale, so here’s some delicious steaks. I’m guessing this isn’t the best article to put this picture in

The 2-step plan to lose the maximum amount of weight in a week

Please note that the following plan can be used by both men and woman.

And don’t do this plan if you’re under 18, you’re way too young to be eating such low calories.

I guarantee that if you follow the plan below, you will lose 10-15 pounds(water and fat) in one week:

1) For one week only, eat 800 calories per day.

2) Workout 2-3 times per week with weights. Make sure the weights are heavy and be sure to hit all body parts.

That’s all.

Some notes/tips about the above 2 steps:

  • 800 calories is very little food, for any man, woman, or baby walrus. Because of this, I suggest that you only eat 1 meal per day a la Brad Pilon’s Eat Stop Eat. If you eat one 800 calorie meal per day, then you’ll at least feel somewhat satisfied, but if you split that up into 3 or even worse, 6 meals per day, then you’re not going to fare so well on this one week venture. Yes, this means that you will be fasting 24 hours every day for a whole week. Just remember, you will be burning fat, not muscle.
  • Whenever possible, eat higher protein and eat foods with high water content such as fruits and soups. Also, drink lots of coffee and green tea, since they both tend to blunt hunger quite well.
  • Stick with heavy compound exercises when in the gym. That means no curling and crunching, and if you even step foot on a treadmill, my dumbass radar will go off and I may have to kill you.
  • If you can’t lift weights, then your next best option is to do some sort of bodyweight training. You know…exercises like squats, push-ups, lunges, pull-ups, sit-ups, etc..
  • This is a mental game more than anything else. When you’re eating very few calories to lose weight faster, your mind starts playing tricks on you. Your stomach is gonna be grumbling more often. And there are gonna be times where you want nothing more than to self-sabotage yourself. Which is why the next point is so important.
  • Above all, keep yourself distracted and out of the kitchen. If you’re constantly prancing around the kitchen and thinking about food, you’re going to fail. So keep yourself busy. Read a book, play some video games, take a nap, work on your tan, or shave your pubes. I don’t care. Just do something that doesn’t involve food.
  • [EDIT 10/6/2014] I should also add that your protein intake needs to be HIGH. Like really high. In fact, the majority of your calories should probably come from protein, fruits, and veggies if you want this diet to be effective. The protein will help keep you full but more importantly also help maintain muscle.

Remember, this is only for one week

I just wanted remind you all, that this sort of extreme weight loss plan is only a temporary plan.

The results don’t have to be temporary, but the plan is. Please do not try and do this weight loss plan for more than a week.

Doing so is really going to mess with your head and you’ll most likely binge back to your original weight.

After one week, transition to a more moderate weight loss plan for the long haul.

I hope you guys now know how much weight you could lose in a week if went balls to the walls.

Want even better results? Take it to the next level with Fat Loss Boost

Many people have been asking me, “Can I do this for more than 7 days?”

Uh…

Yes and no.

Technically, you could eat 800 cals per day for a sustained period of time.

But sooner or later it’s gonna backfire on you.

If you want a more sustainable rapid fat loss plan…

Then I highly recommend checking out Fat Loss Boost.

This is a more long-term approach than the strategy I outlined in this blog post.

It’s a strategic rapid fat loss diet that works in 14 day cycles.

So you go hard on the diet for 14 days, lose a crap ton of weight, take a break, and repeat.

And the results from Fat Loss Boost are even better:

“I have been able to lose 10 pounds using this program. Starting weight 186. Weight this morning was 176.”

“I lost 12 lbs for my first attempt. Started at 201.7 and ended at 189.9. I am amazed!!! Thanks to everywhere for all the support and great hacks.”

“Ok people I’m done 😀. I hit 171.8 today, my goal was to break 172 on this round which was what I weighed almost ten years ago (lowest as an adult). That’s 30.2 lbs in just under 3 months.

Pretty crazy, right?

Definitely give it a look if you want a realistic, yet challenging plan that burns fat faster than anything. you ever tried before.

  1. Hi, I’m 18 and i am 5’9 and i weigh about 280 i believe. But i have no way to get to a gym to use the bars and stuff for weight resistance, what do you recommend i do?

  2. Hi um i’m 13 5’3 and i weigh about 130 pounds i’m looking to lose about 30 pounds. I usually starve myself throughout the day by only drinking water. Is there another easy way for me to lose weight without starving myself?

    1. Ok, this is a dangerous/delicate situation.

100000 times more dangerous because you’re 13. You haven’t even gone through puberty, there’s no reason for you to force yourself to lose 30 pounds.

      – First off, stop only drinking water, in the long run you’re hurting your chances of losing weight.
      – Stop starving yourself, don’t follow any of the advice in this article.
      – Start exercising by finding something you enjoy. Not heavy weights, but maybe a sport or something.
      – Eat more fruits/veggies. Eat normal, healthy meals.
      – Talk to your parents or someone older you trust. Please communicate with them and tell them about how you want to be healthier.
      – DO NOT obsess about your weight at this age. Trust me, no one cares as much as you think. You’re not overweight and have a normal BMI. I don’t no why you want to lose so much weight but please be careful and safe.

      1. Hedaia…..please seriously take the advice above…you are no where near over weight….please discuss with parents or adult you trust….you can email me at [email protected] (degree in child psychology) if wanting to discuss deeper.

  3. One good thing about this diet is that it forces you to drop bad habits. Snacks at 9:00pm isn’t good! Overeating also not good. After I hit my goal I promise to wear proper pants that button so I will always be aware of any weight gain. And actually use my MIRROR and be honest with myself.

  4. Should also share I am 5’3″ and 153 lbs. I’ve dropped 5 lbs in 4 days on this diet. Total goal is to drop 20-25 lbs. I’ve slowly put on weight over the last 5 years. This is a great jump start. After this week I plan to consume 1200 calories per day. Remember alcohol counts! Not good if you want to lose weight. Your body will burn off alcohol before it will burn off fat.
Good luck everyone! Reading all your comments has helped me.

  5. Not one person chiming in if this worked for them? Just “how much weight would I lose if I had the willpower to do this for so and so days?” Dear God in heaven. Not eating, period, will help you lose the weight you need. A man fasted for 388 days and lost 340 lbs I believe. You should take a multivitamin and water. Also im not a doctor so dont trust anything I say.

  6. I’m a 22 year old mom. Trying to get rid of this mom fat I gained lol. I weigh 189 and I do NOT plan on hitting 200.. I’m gonna try this. And get back to you. 🙂

  7. I’m a 47 yr old woman with 20 lbs to lose. Did this diet for a week and lost 5 lbs. The week was hard but it really showed me all my bad habits. No more 9:00pm snacks! And it made me think about my calorie intake and make every calorie count. A food journal has made me accountable.
Always thought food journals were dumb. They aren’t. Helped lots. Here are some food ideas that helped me.

mussels without shells, 8 oz steamed is only 160 calories.
1 cup of baked spaghetti squash is 40 calories.
1 boneless skinless chicken thigh is 150 calories.
1/2 tilapia filet is 120 calories
    Steamed veggies are practically free!
Salad dressing – trade in blue cheese for light vinaigrette.
    No booze or soda!!!

Good luck everyone! I know it’s hard. Last night I felt like I was going to die if I didn’t get an after dinner snack. Breaking habits is hard! I’m continuing with a 1200 calorie diet per day. I can’t wait to hit my goal weight! If I get too impatient, I may do this diet again. Would live to hear how everyone is doing. Please post updates.

  8. Hi I’m 17, 5”5, 235lbs tenn who really needs to lose weight. It’s hard not to eat something.
I’m looking into taking your advice of finding a distraction instead of snacking.
    I need some help.

  9. 10 days into my diet. Have lost 5 lbs doing 800 calories for 1 week. Have been on 1200 calories since day 8. Fell off the wagon 2 days in a row and put on 0.5 lbs. So mad at myself. Tonight is very hard. I want to go into my kitchen and pig out on some amazing snacks even though it is late. But I’m reminding myself I have to break some bad habits, like late night snacking, if I ever walnt to lose weight and get back to my goal weight. All my pants are uncomfortably tight! Most of the time I feel fat and unhappy with my weight, so please tell me why I am having such a hard time giving up late night snacks. The one thing guaranteed to make anyone fat! Keeping busy is very important and the best advice Keith gave. Whiten your teeth, scrub the bathroom, do the dishes, dust, vacuum, lift some hand weights – do anything! Oh, here’s a good one – try on all your pants even though you know they are too tight or too small. How’s that for a reminder that today is diet day. I will say it again. Breaking the bad habits is very, very hard.
I want to lose a total of 23 lbs. Lost 5 but put 0.5 back on because I didn’t stay on my game. Example: I hosted a lunch and put out an appetizer tray, mostly fruits and veg but also included cheese and crackers and wine. I ate an extra 500 calories that day. Wanted to kick myself for going backwards BUT today is a New day and today I did good. I am sure it will get easier, I just hope that will be soon. During the day it is easier because I am busy, but the after dinner time continues to be a sucky battle. Wish me luck. How is everyone else doing?

  10. A good plan is important. When I went to the grocery store I stocked up on good stuff. No junk.
Breakfast: 3 egg whites (60 caliries) + 1 whole egg (75 calories) plus a ton of veg like spinach and mushrooms and a tiny bit of extra sharp low fat cheese. 200 calories and it’s a ton of food!
Lunch: baked or grilled bonless skinless chicken thigh plus a gigantic salad (please be sure to measure and accurately count salad dressing) 200 calories
2nd lunch: steamed shrimp, mussels or clams. 100 calories
Dinner: chicken or fish (lemon yes, butter and oil NO) plus all the steamed veggies you want. 300 calories.
And this afternoon when I wanted to binge on pizza, instead I tried on all my dresses. Two looked pretty good, more than a dozen did not. There’s a reminder not to eat pizza.
Still wanna eat? Put on a waist trainer. You will feel so shumushed in and uncomfortable you will promise the Lord anything including not eating for the next year if you can just take the awful thing off. (That was my attempt at humor). Good luck and keep me posted

  11. I’m 25 220 5’8 . So I’m interested in doing this but I have reduced my calories intake to about 1000-1500 this month i’ve lost about 10lbs so far. I want to go extreme this last week. Will this work for me?

Excerse wise I have a weight bar and dum bells at home. Besides squats what other exercises do you recommend?

          1. To lose as much weight as possible. We made a bet at work, ew of my coworkers. To motivate each other to lose the weight. of course I thought it was an myth that men lose weight quicker than women but one of my coworkers is down 20 pounds and I’m just lacking at 10 pounds I tried working out eating less eating better every thing. Anything would help

  12. Today is day 13 of my diet. Did 800 calories for first week, then had 2 ‘off’ days where I consumed 1500 calories, then 1200 calories for the last 3 days. I seem to be stuck at only 5.5 lbs lost. Any suggestions? Want to lose another 18 lbs.

  13. Wanted a snack so bad tonight but instead I kept busy. Took 15 boxes of Christmas stuff up the steps to the attic (in 30 minutes) and then I scrubbed the wood floors in the kitchen by hand with a bucket and brush and rag like my grandma. Still trying. Any suggestions or words of encouragement would be well appreciate.

    1. I think your eoing GREAT !! I just turned 52 and weight 160 pounds at 5’2” I’m going to start the one week extreme weight loss tomorrow and hopefully I can drop at least 5 pounds or more this week. I’m going through menopause so putting it on was easy but taking it off is so hard !! Stopped having anything made from or with white flour, white sugar and white rice (any rice) just before christmas and never had a problem dropping down to 120 pounds but this time I cant believe how hard it is !!! In two weeks i only lost one pound !Before id be down least 10 plus pounds!! Asked my doctor why so gard and she said most woman gain at least 10 pounds during menopause so i was doing good not gaining. Not what i wanted to hear!! So now im going to try and do it this way and hopefuily if i start seeing a good drop in weight it will motivate me to push harder !! Plus im going to Dominican the end of next month so that should help too !! Good luck and im pushing for you !!

      1. I hear ya sister! Menopause sucks! Most of my life I have had a hard time staying above 100 lbs. I got up to 150 lost 20 lbs now I can’t for the life of me move the scale off of 130! So frustrating! Getting married in 10 days so I’m going to try is one last thing! Fingers crossed! Good luck to you!

  14. I have a special event coming up in a few months I would like to lose as much weight as possible for. I have been having a hard time because I have been working out and restricting my diet as much as possible without seeing results so I end up falling back on my old habits. I would really like to give this a try and I was wondering what foods you would suggest in order to get the most out of this?

      1. Kieth I am hoping for any suggestions that you may have for me.
I posted early saying that im struggling with losing ANY weight while going through menopause
I am 52 and weight 160 pounds and only 5’1″ tall. Before going through menapause i never had a problem with losing weight but now no matter what i do i cant seem to drop any. I went on the caveman diet and weighed myself after loyalty being on it for two weeks and lost 0.05 pounds in the past i would have seen a drop of probably 7-10 pounds
Ive ask my family doctor and all she said was woman going through menapause usually gain so i should be happy that i didnt, not what i wanted to hear !!! is there anything you suggest to help
        Thank you in advance !!!
        Joyce

        1. Losing weight when you’re older is harder than when you are young. I’ve been dieting for 16 days and have lost 7.5 lbs. It’s just going to take some time. More vegetables is helpful. They are low calorie and healthy. Good luck and keep me posted!
